Rainbow brochures advising “bring yourself your authentic self” recently appeared above the cubicles at Goldman Sachs, training employees in the correct use of gender pronouns – and a few bankers are shocked by the hypocrisy.
The brochure advises along with “she/her/her/them”, “he/him/his/himself” and the gender neutral “they/they/them/them”, that one other set of gender neutral pronouns is “ze/zir” (zem) / zirs (zes) / zirself (zemself).”
Examples within the column on the precise: “That He went to the shop. I spoke with zir / zem. There was an apple zir / set“.
But some insiders say the posing of Goldman – whose offices are on 200 West. st. has long been run by old-school, testosterone-fueled, steak-eating males – taking the worth of “awakening” is unbearable.
Goldman’s recent message of acceptance and support looks particularly false given the mega-bank’s efforts to silence accusations by 1000’s of girls that sexism is rampant throughout the company, employees complain.
“I believe Goldman has a variety of other issues he has to fret about besides pronouns,” one source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Post. “Perhaps start by eliminating … those that harass women, after which possibly the ladies here will take diversity and inclusion issues seriously.”

The brochure – which was first launched in 2019 – sets high standards for the workplace, each inside and out.
“Proactively share your pronouns to create a way of respect and awareness (e.g. “Hi, I’m Karen! My pronouns are she/her. Welcome to the team!”), the brochure advises.
“If possible, replace gender-sensitive language with gender-sensitive language in your each day conversations (e.g. “Hi everyone” v. “Hi guys”).
The brochure also notes that “practice makes perfect”, advising staff to “practice using gender-neutral pronouns on their very own time. Feeling comfortable with these conditions doesn’t occur immediately and will require coordinated effort.”

In truth, nevertheless, the bank’s larger message – especially for young employees – is to maintain your head down and work harder, in accordance with sources who spoke to The Post on the condition of anonymity.
“There is no ‘authentic self’ at Goldman Sachs. That is your Goldman self,” said one The Post staffer. “You’ll all the time be judged by what you wear, the way you behave, the way you present yourself and the way you play the Goldman game.”
A Goldman spokeswoman called the claims a logical fallacy and pointed out that the guides are 4 years old.
“Goldman Sachs has an extended and powerful history of promoting and advancing women in any respect levels of the bank,” the representative said.
On June 5, Goldman will appear in court in Recent York’s Southern District, brought by 1,400 plaintiffs alleging years of discrimination, including bias against women, on the subject of promotions and pay.
