Google announced a rise in YouTube TV subscription prices on Thursday. According to an email sent to subscribers on Thursday, it has been rising from $65 a month to $73 a month since April.
YouTube TV is a alternative for the Google cable. It provides access to live TV and cable channels, delivered via an Web connection.
“As content costs have increased and we proceed to put money into the quality of our service, we’re updating our price to proceed to provide the absolute best experience,” the company wrote in an email to subscribers.
Google’s decision to increase the price of a subscription to cable cutters comes after several competing online streaming services also increased the fees they charge, including Disney, Apple and HBO services.
In December, YouTube TV secured the rights to the NFL “Sunday Ticket” Bundle, which is able to allow it to sell to subscribers nationwide a bundle of NFL games not aired on local television.
YouTube pays around $2 billion a 12 months for the bundle, CNBC reported, which had several other bidders including Apple and Disney. Google hasn’t announced pricing for its “Sunday Ticket” bundle, however it was $80 a month with previous owner DirecTV.
Google will even lower the price of an add-on to access higher definition 4K streams from $20/month to $10/month, according to the email.
