In our every day lives, it is simple to ignore slightly pain or discomfort here and there, even if it’s a component of our body that we use lots. It could possibly be a stiff shoulder, a sore foot, or perhaps a sore hand. But while some ailments may improve with rest or basic painkillers, it is vital to know when extra help could also be needed.
With this in mind, we spoke to occupational therapists Karolyn Paulson and Ava McKee about what situations will be improved with hand therapy. Our conversation on this episode of the For Health’s Sake podcast was about:
- Symptoms to be evaluated by a hand therapist
- Goals and advantages of hand therapy
- What’s hand therapy?
Relief is at hand
If you notice pain, stiffness, weakness, or other symptoms in your hands that do not go away with rest or that interfere together with your every day activities, make an appointment together with your primary care provider. Your doctor could make an initial assessment and refer you to a specialist if needed.
