The mother of her missing son waited 12 long years for her Christmas miracle.
Scottish mum Joyce Curtis thought her son died greater than a decade ago. Curtis had no contact together with her boyfriend, Nicholas, since he disappeared in 2010 and assumed he was dead until December 19, when she received a call saying her pride and joy had been present in a hospital in France.
“I cannot imagine it,” Curtis told SWNS of the “wonderful” meeting. “I have accepted the proven fact that he’s dead. I really thought so, and I think everyone thought the identical.”
She added: “It’s like that movie ‘Miracle on thirty fourth Street’. It’s like a miracle.”
The heartbreaking saga began within the early 2000s after a Glasgow resident quit his job as a construction employee and launched into a journey across Europe. Nicholas told his mother that he was hitchhiking, and his mother feared that he was wandering the shabby streets of Paris.
Eventually, in 2009, Curtis reported her son missing after “having had no word from him for ages” during his Europe-wide pilgrimage, a concerned parent said.

Her report appeared to repay, as a 12 months later the British Consulate contacted her to tell her that Nicholas was alive, SWNS reports.
“In 2010, I got a letter saying that Nicholas was in a hospital in France,” explained Curtis, who immediately flew to Paris together with her husband to go to him.
The Scot didn’t know that it was the last time she saw her offspring for 12 years. “We took him home, but for some reason, I do not know why, he just disappeared again,” lamented the heartbroken mother. “They were sending him home and I was told they were getting on a plane.
“I was expecting him at home in Glasgow at a certain time,” added Curtis, who even bought him shoes and other travel clothing for his flight home during her visit to Paris.
The zealous mother waited within the hospital where she worked on the time, but Mikołaj “never got here home.”

“I remember it was pouring rain that day,” the terrified parent described. “I called every airport to see if he got on a plane, but nothing.”
Glaswegian added: “This was the last message from him until Monday.”
That day, the British Consulate contacted Curtis a second time to warn her that Nicholas was alive and had been admitted to a French hospital Againa la Groundhog Day. Nonetheless, they didn’t specify the character of the person’s ailments.
“When I got the decision that he was alive, I was shocked,” exclaimed the overjoyed mother upon hearing the wonderful news. “All I did was cry all day.”
The comforted parent said he was sure her child died of “COVID and every little thing that happened”, adding that she even “felt sorry for him”.
Curtis was overjoyed to be talking to her son for the primary time in 10 years. “I spoke to him on the phone. He looks healthy, she said. “I asked him, ‘Are you coming home, Nikky? And he said, “Yes.”
She added: “I cannot imagine what he went through. I just have to take him home.
And while Nicholas is planning a trip home, Curtis says she’s also able to go to Paris to see him, presumably to stop one other heartbreaking deja vu.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign, Commonwealth and Development has also pledged to assist. “We support the Briton in France and help his family,” the spokesman said. “We’re involved with local authorities”
