Australian music critic Ian “Molly” Meldrum shocked viewers by dropping his pants during a surprise appearance on stage with Elton John at the singer’s farewell concert in Melbourne, Australia.
Meldrum was in the audience for Sir Elton’s epic Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour when the star paid tribute to him at AAMI Park on Friday night.
“Truthfully, he’s a national treasure,” Elton told the crowd.
“I would like to thank him for all the love and loyalty he has shown me over the years. I really like you.”
Meldrum then took the stage in a stormy version of The Bitch Is Back.
They hugged and kissed before Meldrum pulled down his pants and exposed his buttocks.
The couple has been friends for a very long time, however it was not easily – including a seven-year feud.
Elton removed Meldrum from his life after a controversial interview on Sunday Night in August 2012, which included footage of the singer criticizing Madonna as a “nightmare” and “carnival stripper”.
During what they thought was an off-the-record chat in Germany, Elton spilled out to his superstar saying she was “terrible” to Lady Gaga, the godmother of his son Zachary.
“She is such a nightmare. Excuse me. Her profession is over – I can let you know that. Her tour was a disaster and it couldn’t have happened to an even bigger c***,” Elton said in the aired video.
“If Madonna had any common sense, she would have made a record like Ray of Light, stayed away from the dance stuff, and would have just been an amazing pop singer.
“But no, she needed to prove that she was like… and appears like a goddamn carnival stripper.”
The previous Countdown host wrote in his 2016 book Ah Well, No person’s Perfect that “Sunday Night’s producer was working behind my back” when airing the material.
He also said he was “not at the top of his game” after suffering a serious brain injury from a fall in December 2011, and said the candid remarks were “clearly a chat between two old friends” and weren’t meant to be broadcast.
“I believe I must have had more control over the final edit and approved the story before it aired,” wrote Meldrum.
“Elton still thinks it’s all my fault and refused to seek advice from me when he toured Australia in 2015.
“I’m tempted to cite a line from one in every of my favorite movies: ‘Truthfully, my dear, I do not care.’ But the truth is, I do not fucking care. I really like Elton.”
The couple reached an agreement during a non-public meeting brokered by the singer ahead of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road concert in Melbourne in 2019.

“We were just with Elton, talking about old times and our great friendship,” Meldrum told the Herald Sun.
“It was lovely. We had an amazing time talking. We talked about once we first met, all the things we have been through and the way necessary our friendship is.”
Elton gave Meldrum a book signed with a message that referred to “so many great times and so many not-so-great times” before dedicating Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me to him in concert.
Elton will reprise his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour at AAMI Park on Saturday, his final show in Melbourne.
It’s an encore performance.
His farewell tour began in 2018, he traveled around Australia at the turn of 2019 and 2020.
