In 2015, he recalled telling Lively that he loved her greater than anything, a lot he would take a bullet for her. And once that they had James, he said on the show Late show with David Letterman“As soon as I looked into that child’s eyes, I knew in that very moment that if we were ever attacked, I’d use my wife as a human shield to guard that child.”
Even waking up in the middle of the night, the recent dad rhapsodized to E! at the time, “you could have a giant silly smile in your face. Anything that wakes you up every 45 minutes, you’d kill it. But when it is a baby, it’s the neatest thing that ever happened to you.”
And it was in those quiet moments that he continued to have real revelations.
“You are concerned about really silly things,” he said TODAY‘S Willie Geist about the possibility that James, then 3 months old, would in the future change into an actor. “And you only sit there and think, ‘Oh God, is she going to wish to do that? I wish to whisper in her ear, like, a very normal, on a regular basis job… “You are going to be a stewardess…a barista…Just a standard, wonderful job where you’ll be able to have a pleasant, normal life. ‘”
