“I saw a train wreck approaching”
On Wednesday morning, Clare Rowe, a baby and family psychologist, referred to startling NSW figures showing that assaults in NSW schools have increased by 50 per cent within the last 10 years.
(The numbers) are shocking. But they aren’t any surprise to me. Sadly, I’ve seen this train wreck coming for the last decade,” she told 2GB.
“I feel it reflects a scarcity of discipline in schools.”
She said the rationale for the rise could possibly be a failure to discipline children with “negative consequences” in primary school.
“Primary school teachers are really limited in what they’ll and can’t do when it comes to discipline. And I say, “Well, how about some negative consequences for this behavior?” – she said.
She said the identical approach at home may be responsible.
“If you might have kids who literally attack one another to the purpose that the police call you, we will not just blame it on the teachers, what is going on on there at home?
“How on earth did we get to the purpose where there are literal fights between groups of women, to the purpose where we will not control it and wish police in our schools? This is totally unacceptable.
“This pertains to the broader culture of teachers who’re limited in what they’ll do from pre-school age.
“(Parents) just have to take a seat down and think, ‘Wait a minute, what am I demonstrating to my child when it comes to power levels? And the way am I going to stack them up for life after they’re out of highschool and have a boss and other people we now have to respect above them?
