British actor Julian Sands – whose remains were discovered last month after going missing in the mountains of southern California – spoke in a recent interview about how he found the remains while climbing.
“I’ve found terrible things in the mountains when you understand you are in a spot where so many individuals have lost their lives, whether on the Eiger or in the Andes,” Sands told Radio Times last 12 months – months before the actor went missing on his solo trek.
“You’ll be able to be confronted with human remains and it might be chilling. It isn’t necessarily supernatural, probably all too natural – I’d say supernatural,” the actor said in A Room with a View.
Sands was reported missing by his wife on January 13 after the 65-year-old actor did not return from a solo expedition to Mount Baldy in the San Gabriel Mountains.
“You’re in the presence of great nature, and great nature is manifesting itself in all its power. It could possibly take us over the edge of hypersensitivity into the realm of natural forces,” Sands told the magazine, expressing the danger in his efforts to explore nature.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department conducted eight separate ground and air searches – most recently on June 17 – to locate the Sands, but their efforts were unsuccessful – with authorities blaming severe weather, including high winds, poor visibility and icy conditions that made the search difficult.
Last week, California hikers discovered Sands’ human remains in the Mount Baldy Desert.
“We would really like to thank all of the volunteers who worked tirelessly to locate Mr. Sands,” the department said in an announcement.

The San Bernardino County Coroner later confirmed that the remains were positive ID for the “Arachnophobia” star, ending an intensive seek for the British-born actor.
Sands’ cause of death remains to be under investigation.
The ‘Wizard’ actor was an avid mountain climber but revealed that in recent years he and his ‘buddies’ have ‘stopped going to the mountains’ because the rock partitions have develop into increasingly unstable with climate change and his age has played a job in the physically demanding explorations.
“Should you don’t really have the desire to give attention to climbing a route, if you happen to’re not completely committed, it becomes so much more dangerous,” he told Radio Times.

Mt. Baldy is taken into account one of probably the most dangerous peaks in California.
As of 2020, six other people have died attempting to climb the mountain – with greater than 100 searches by thrill-seekers and veteran hikers who flock annually to challenge the ten,000-foot peak, in keeping with the Los Angeles Times.
Following the invention of his remains, his family released an announcement saying the “Leaving Las Vegas” actor will without end remain in their “hearts with shiny memories of him as an important father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the humanities and as an original and collaborating performer.”
“Julian was an important friend and client. He selected interesting projects that mattered to him and was loved by everyone who worked with him,” Sands manager Sarah Jackson said in an announcement to The Post.
Sands has 4 projects set to release, in keeping with IMDb.
“He was an avid climber and we take comfort in knowing he passed a spot he loved doing what he loved,” added Jackson. “We’re full of probably the most beautiful memories.”
