The favored San Francisco breakfast restaurant that inspired the eatery in the hit animated series “Bob’s Burgers” has closed.
Café Just For YouThe comfy brunch spot in the Dogpatch neighborhood – the set for the Belcher family’s burger joint on Fox – closed after 43 years on Monday.
Debt incurred by the pandemic, rising inflation and construction problems led to her closer, owner Reid Hannuli SFGATE said.
“Long story short, we have not really made any money since COVID, and it’s just been a battle,” he told the outlet. “I used a crisis loan to get us up, personal money… I like the restaurant nevertheless it hasn’t been in a position to pay me for the last two years.”
In long serieswhich debuted in 2011 and is now in its thirteenth season, Bob Belcher runs his dream restaurant Bob’s Burgers along with his wife Linda and kids Tina, Gene and Louise.
Recurring characters on the show – who also spawned Movie from 2022 — were voiced by stars equivalent to Kevin Kline, Jenny Slate, Sarah Silverman, Aziz Ansari, and Zach Galifianakis.
When creator Loren Bouchard was creating the show, he traveled around San Francisco taking photos of restaurants in search of inspiration, and when he got here across Just For You, he knew immediately that it was something special.
“I looked out the window and saw something big,” he told SFGATE. “Like a terrific thunderbolt.”
Bouchard particularly liked the transition between the kitchen and the front counter, which he in comparison with “a puppet theater for youngsters”.
He then asked an area artist, Sirron Norris, to draw an interior based on its designso he could create scenes where Bob could interact along with his family while working at the barbecue.
Beloved restaurant – for which it was famous comfortable menu specialties equivalent to fluffy Latest Orleans-style beignets dusted with powdered sugar and homemade bread, opened in 1980.
Notable clients included Paul Rudd and Drew Barrymore.
“I hope someone can move in and open a restaurant as soon as possible,” Hannula said. “Just For You has been one among the most amazing experiences of my life and I need to thank everyone who supported us.”
Loyal patrons of the restaurant expressed sadness over its closure on Instagram.
“This rare thing, an ideal joint. The world is a smaller, worse place,” he lamented
