The primary morning of the second Ashes test at Lord’s was interrupted when Just Stop Oil protesters ran to the ground and scattered orange powder on the pitch.
After a primary throw on Wednesday by England’s James Anderson at Australian batsman David Warner, two men emerged from the stands and headed towards the square, releasing powder before being subdued by security personnel.
English goalkeeper Jonny Bairstow carried one in every of the men off the pitch before ground staff cleared the pitch and play resumed after about five minutes of delay.
Three people have since been arrested, police said.
Writing on Twitter, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “We’re aware of the protesters at Lord’s Cricket Ground today Wednesday 28 June.
