Get moving, coronation chicken, because here comes… quiche?
On Monday, the royal family announced the ceremony’s signature dish – which they aptly named the “coronation quiche” – which was personally chosen by King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla.
However, he scored less than a egg– a great reception from royal fans on Twitter and it looks like a lot of people won’t fire up their ovens to try it out.
The dish, which consists of a mixture of spinach, broad beans, cheese and tarragon, is recommended at parties throughout the weekend.
An official of the royal family Instagram account he even posted a video on his site on how to do it.
The coronation is scheduled for Saturday, May 6, at Westminster Abbey. This marks the official transfer of power to Charles after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September last year.
But on social media, some people labeled the egg dish “embarrassing,” while others just couldn’t hide their eggsoutbursts of anger.

“#Coronation Quiche? Is Carl serious? No sane person would choose a quiche.” one person blushed.
Another scoldedThe “coronation quiche” looks absolutely grim, so I suppose it’s the right choice.
“The fact that we have a recipe for a coronation is embarrassing enough, but this?” one user asked in response to a tweet from the royal family’s official Twitter account announcing the quiche. “A huge country full of unique cuisines and THIS is the shit you choose?? Coronation quiches? It’s 2023 not 1973. Do we have vol-au-vents and pineapple cheese on a stick to go with that?
Others have slammed the royal family for choosing quiche as the official coronation dish while there is currently an egg shortage affecting both the US and the UK. BBC.
“Coronation Quiche when you run out of eggs lmaoooo,” one person tweeted. They’re so deaf it’s comical.”
However, not all social media users were put off by the controversial quiche.
“This coronation quiche looks lush to be fair,” one admitted person.
Another agreed, writing“We’re going to make Coronation Quiche because the recipe sounds like it tastes good.”

Unfortunately, if you’re in a quiche-free camp, you might opt for the traditional Coronation Chicken, a creamy, decadent curry dish that was created for Queen Elizabeth II’s 1953 ceremony. Le Cordon Bleu.
However, the main focus of the weekend celebration may not be the kitchen – it could be the family drama that could potentially ensue. Last week, the royal family announced that Prince Harry would attend his father’s coronation ceremony without wife Meghan Markle.
His appearance comes amid a period of tension between the family and Harry following the release of his memoir Spare and Netflix documentary series Harry and Meghan in January.
In his memoirs, he claimed that his elder brother Prince William “physically attacked him”.
But maybe a quiche could smooth things over between the brothers.
And for those who dare to try it, below is the official recipe – straight from the royal family website.

Ingredients:
- 125 g of wheat flour
- Pinch of salt
- 25 g of cold butter cut into cubes
- 25g lard
- 2 tablespoons of milk
- Or 1 x 250 g block of ready-made shortcrust pastry
To fill:
- 125 ml of milk
- 175 ml double cream
- 2 medium eggs
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh tarragon,
- Salt and pepper
- 100g grated cheddar cheese,
- 180g cooked spinach, lightly chopped
- 60g of cooked broad beans or soybeans
Preparation instructions:
- “Sift the flour and salt into a bowl; add the fats and rub the mixture with your fingertips until you get a texture similar to sandy breadcrumbs.
- Add milk a little at a time and knead the ingredients into a dough.
- Cover and place in the fridge for 30-45 minutes
- Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the dough into a circle slightly larger than the top of the tin and about 5 mm thick.
- Line the form with the dough, making sure that there are no holes, otherwise the mass may leak out. Cover and place in the fridge for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 190°C.
- Line the baking tin with baking paper, add the baking beans and bake blind for 15 minutes, then remove the baking paper and baking beans.
- Reduce the oven temperature to 160°C.
- Beat the milk, cream, eggs, herbs and spices together.
- Sprinkle 1/2 of the grated cheese over the baked base, sprinkle with the chopped spinach, beans and herbs, then pour over the liquid mixture.
- If necessary, gently stir the mixture to ensure even distribution of the filling, but be careful not to damage the springform pan.
- Sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Place in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until set and lightly browned.
