Authorities all over the world are imposing or considering restrictions on travelers from China as the number of Covid-19 cases within the country soars after the comfort of the “zero-Covid” rules.
They cite a scarcity of information from China on the variants and are concerned concerning the wave of infections. China has rejected criticism of its Covid data and said it expects future mutations to be potentially more transmissible but less severe.

The UK would require a negative Covid-19 test before departure for passengers from China from January 5, the Ministry of Health said on Friday.

France would require travelers from China to present a negative Covid test result lower than 48 hours before departure, the health and transport ministries said on Friday.
From January 1, France can even conduct random Covid PCR tests upon arrival on some travelers arriving from China, a government official told reporters.
Australia
Travelers from China to Australia shall be required to present a negative COVID-19 test from January 5, Australia’s Health Minister Mark Butler said on Sunday, joining other countries to introduce similar restrictions as China’s cases surge.
India
The health minister said the country had ordered a negative Covid-19 test report for travelers arriving from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Thailand. Passengers from these countries shall be quarantined in the event that they show symptoms or test positive.

People traveling by air to Canada from China must test negative for Covid-19 not more than two days before departure, Ottawa said Saturday, joining other countries in enacting such restrictions.

Italy
Italy ordered Covid-19 antigen swabs and virus sequencing for all travelers from China. Milan’s foremost airport, Malpensa, has already began testing passengers arriving from Beijing and Shanghai. “The measure is needed to make sure surveillance and detection of possible variants of the virus with the intention to protect the Italian population,” said Health Minister Orazio Schillaci.

Taiwan
Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center said all passengers on direct flights from China, as well as boats on two offshore islands, shall be required to undergo PCR testing upon arrival, starting January 1.
