It’s a latest twist on an old axiom: the dog is prosecutorial best friend.
Bubba, a boisterous yellow Labrador retriever, was just considered one of greater than 75 witnesses and nearly 800 pieces of evidence within the six-week murder trial of disgraced South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh.
However the dog’s presence on the crime scene was instrumental within the conviction of the now disqualified attorney – who was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Friday for the murders of his wife, 52-year-old Maggie, and 22-year-old son Paul, in June 2021.
“Does Bubba Have a Sixth Sense?” prosecutor John Meadors asked the jury, claiming the dog had tricked Alex into giving up his whereabouts. “Thank God for Bubba.”
Since Maggie and Paul died, Rumor has it that Bubba lives with Blanca Turrubiate-Simpsona former Murdaugh housewife who herself was a witness on the trial.

An extended-time Murdaugh family watcher who watched the trial also credited Bubba, said to be Maggie’s favorite of the family’s 4 dogs, with ultimately drowning the defendant.
“Bubba solved the case,” a source told The Post on Thursday. “Labs are very loyal. They love their owners and Maggie was Bubba’s champion.”
Alex Murdaugh was given two life sentences for murdering his wife and son.
Murdaugh, 54, insisted to authorities on the night of the killing that he was nowhere near the doghouses on the country hunting lodge where Maggie and Paul were found fatally shot, she with a rifle and he with a shotgun.
But prosecutors have revealed a bombshell Snapchat video that clearly placed the South Carolina descendant on the family’s Islandton hunting lodge – revealing his voice as considered one of three clearly audible within the 50-second clip. The others belonged to Paul and Maggie.

Prosecutor Creighton Waters called the video “crucial evidence” in opening statements in late January.
In his sensational confession, Murdaugh later admitted to joining his wife and son on the kennel where he was heard snatching a chicken from Bubba.

“Come here, Bubba!” Murdaugh’s voice speaks. “Come here, Bubba!”
Murdaugh admitted that he had previously lied to authorities in regards to the breeding relationship, blaming his addiction to opioids for creating distrust of the police.
