Introducing the brand new Mr. and Mrs. Mark Sanchez.
The previous Jets quarterback married his longtime love, “Shameless” actress Perry Mattfeld, over Memorial Day weekend in Oaxaca, Mexico, one 12 months after getting engaged.
“Our union is a celebration of our special bond in front of family and friends, and a promise to one another and family members that we shall be strong and support one another in our future challenges, successes and failures,” 36-year-old Sanchez he told the People.
The previous first-round pick, who was drafted fifth by the Jets in 2009, donned a beige suit for the massive day, while Mattfeld, 29, dazzled in a bespoke Karen Sabag gown for the lavish event.
“It was really emotional and special for us,” said Mattfeld, whom Sanchez introduced in 2017 through friend Scotty McKnight, who was Sanchez’s longtime buddy and in addition briefly played for the Jets.
The couple exchanged handwritten vows in an “emotional” ceremony where Sanchez’s son Daniel was one of the best man and ring bearer.
“It was so special that we could read our vows with him next to us,” recalls Mattfeld.
Sanchez, who now serves as broadcaster for Fox Sports after retiring from the NFL in 2019, joked that he “couldn’t hold back the tears.”
“Emotions are a huge understatement. All of it hit me straight away like a Mack truck after which I could not turn off the tears! Tears of joy, love and gratitude for getting such an incredible life partner,” said the previous USC product.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds continued their festivities with a reception with greater than 200 guests, including Sanchez’s former Jets teammate, retired center Nick Mangold.
“I traveled all of the approach to Oaxaca City, Mexico for @Mark_Sanchez’s wedding and that is the one photo I get from us. Sensible!” Mangold, TK, tweeted alongside a photo of the couple.
Texas State University head football coach GJ Kinne also shared photos of the dreamy affair on Instagram.
“Three Days of Celebrating Mark + Perry in Oaxaca!!” he exclaimed.
Sanchez and Mattfeld, who got engaged last May, they are actually preparing for his or her honeymoon in East Africa, which can include stops in Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar and the Seychelles.
“We’re lucky because our careers have taken us to many cities around the globe, but neither of us have ever been on a trip like this,” she said.
Before going into broadcasting, Sanchez spent 10 seasons in the NFL starting with the Jets from 2009 to 2013.
Other stops for Sanchez include the Eagles, Broncos, Cowboys and Bears.
He last played for Washington throughout the 2018 season.
