Being a toddler star doesn’t guarantee a smooth-sailing career later down the road — and it was no different for “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” star Matthew Broderick.
The actor was propelled to global stardom after landing the leading role within the hit 1986 film but Broderick said what followed was a dry spell in successfully securing other roles.
“I did have nice early success. Nevertheless it’s tough to take care of that first flush,” the 61-year-old told The Guardian. “It’s at all times a tough adjustment for child actors, young actors. People see the child out of ‘Leave It to Beaver’ grown up they usually don’t buy it — they need to see little Beaver.”
“People associated me with younger roles, but I wanted them to come back with me and get used to the proven fact that I’m wrinkly. And it was hard. The ’90s were hard. Plenty of ups and downs. But I at all times tried to maintain at it, keep my heart in it. Hopefully that keeps you in the sport,” he shared.
Broderick would later star in movies comparable to “Godzilla,” “The Cable Guy,” and “Inspector Gadget” while he also had a job in “The Lion King,” where he voiced adult Simba throughout the 90s.

And when asked to define his legacy, Broderick, who’s married to Sarah Jessica Parker, responded, “Well, I’m Ferris Bueller, I suppose. I actually have to just accept it. And I prefer it. I’ve made my peace with it.”
The actor also opened up about his marriage to Sarah Jessica Parker, saying the pair keep their relationship out of the highlight for the sake of their three kids.
The couple, who tied the knot in 1997, share three children together: son James, 20, and 13-year-old twins Tabitha and Marion.

“Well, it’s nothing we ever sat down and discussed. But I believe it evolved and I believe it’s essential,” Broderick said when asked why he and Parker rarely discuss their relationship in public.
“Once you begin talking about your relationship and your feelings in public you’re in trouble. Also, we’ve children. I don’t need to have my kids reading about our relationship.”
“We try to maintain some privacy, a circle across the family, so we will all have as normal a life as possible,” he added.

The pair recently celebrated their twenty sixth wedding anniversary in May, with the “Sex and the City” alum, 58, marking the special day with a heartwarming post on Instagram.
“Joyful twenty sixth anniversary my husband,” she captioned a picture of a champagne cork. “That sure was a pleasant celebration and an actual nice bottle of Champagne. And a beautiful walk home. Oh the miles we’ve strolled together. I like you.”
