Matthew Perry’s ex-fiancée, Molly Hurwitz, is recalling the “deep” love she had for the “Friends” actor, following his shocking death Saturday on the age of 54.
“He would love that the world is talking about how talented he was. And he really was very talented,” Hurwitz, a 32-year-old literary manager, captioned a photograph of Perry’s silhouette to Instagram on Monday.
“Because the ‘Friends’ reunion was approaching, we rewatched the show together. ‘F–k, I used to be so good!!!…See what I did there???’ We rewound and studied scenes. Our respect and appreciation of humor is something that connected us. Being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance was magical.”
Hurwitz continued, “But, I obviously knew that man in a really different way, too. While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated, and he caused pain like I’d never known. Nobody in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I actually have tremendous gratitude for that, for every thing I learned from our relationship.”
“I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Al Anon, a useful resource for many who love someone scuffling with this destructive disease,” she added.
“Matty, I feel relief that you just are at peace. Sincerely, Moll-o-Rama(…fication),” Hurwitz signed off.
Perry’s assistant found him unresponsive in the new tub of his Los Angeles home on Saturday afternoon.
He’s believed to have drowned, although an official reason for death has been “deferred” pending toxicology results.
Perry struggled with alcohol and drug addiction for years — pharmaceuticals were reportedly found inside his home on the time of his death.
“Los Angeles city firefighters responded to the 18000 block of West Blue Sail Drive at 4:07 PM on October 28, 2023, to search out an adult male unconscious in a stand-alone jacuzzi. A bystander had brought the person’s head above the water and gotten him to the sting, then firefighters removed him from the water upon their arrival,” Nicholas Prange, a spokesman for the LA fire department, told The Post on Monday.
“A rapid medical assessment, sadly, revealed the person was deceased prior to first responder arrival. The circumstances are under investigation by LAPD and the LA County Medical Examiner. We mourn with families and friends who lose a loved one unexpectedly.”
Perry and Hurwitz began dating in 2018, and after keeping a low profile for years, got engaged in November 2020 while Perry was at a Switzerland rehab center.
They called things off in June 2021.
“Sometimes things just don’t work out and that is one in all them,” Perry told People on the time. “I wish Molly the most effective.”
For her part, Hurwitz was spotted Sunday at a dog park in LA with two friends and their dogs.
She was seen crying at one point, The Sun reported.
Meanwhile, Perry’s “Friends” co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, addressed Perry’s death in a joint statement Monday.
“We’re all so utterly devastated by the lack of Matthew. We were greater than just forged mates. We’re a family,” read their statement, obtained by People. “There’s a lot to say, but right away we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
“In time we are going to say more, as and once we are able,” the statement continued. “For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everybody who loved him all over the world.”
