US women’s soccer team star Megan Rapinoe retires.
The Olimpijka, one of the famous soccer players of all time, announced on July 8 that she plans to retire from professional soccer after the conclusion of the 2023 National Women’s Soccer League season this fall.
“With a deep sense of peace and gratitude, I actually have decided that this can be my last season on this beautiful game,” Rapinoe, 38, wrote. Instagram, next to her childhood photo. “I could never have imagined how football would shape and alter my life endlessly, but judging by the expression on this little girl’s face, she knew from the beginning.”
Athlete’s fiancée, Olympian and retired WNBA legend Sue Bird expressed her support for her partner, commenting: “Congratulations, baby! This little girl will proceed to accomplish that much good on this world (but she sure killed it on the sphere). I like you”.
