Singer CoCo Lee has died after attempting suicide, her sisters confirmed in a Facebook post on Wednesday. She was 48 years old.
Her older sisters wrote that the star attempted suicide at home on Sunday, July 2, and was rushed to the hospital. A depression-related suicide attempt left her in a coma until her death on Wednesday.
“CoCo has suffered from depression for several years, but her condition has worsened drastically in the previous couple of months.” – we read in a post on Facebook.
“Although CoCo sought skilled help and did what she could to fight her depression, unfortunately, the demon inside her won out.”
Born in Hong Kong, the singer-songwriter moved to the United States when she was 9 years old and eventually returned to her home state where she began her music profession.

Lee’s breakthrough role got here in 1998 when she sang the Mandarin version of the theme song “Reflection” from the Disney classic “Mulan” and played the title role in the Chinese version of the film.

She made history as the first Chinese-American to perform at the Oscars, singing “A Love Before Time” from Ang Lee’s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, and as the first Chanel brand ambassador of Chinese origin in the Asian region.
Lee remained an energetic, well-known star in mainland China until her death and is remembered as a talented and classy pop icon in her early years.
Lately, Lee has been a judge in various singing competitions and reality shows.
“CoCo can be known for working tirelessly to open a latest world for Chinese singers in the international music scene and did her best to shine for the Chinese people,” her sisters wrote of their post. “We’re proud of her!”
With the Lee sisters, he leaves his mother; husband Bruce Rockowitz, Canadian businessman, former CEO of Li & Fung, a supply chain company in Hong Kong; and two stepdaughters.
