Certainly one of tennis’s most unpredictable stars stays as Nick Kyrgios retired from Indian Wells and the Miami Open with one other injury setback – the identical one which plagued him on the Australian Open.
After retiring from Melbourne and the United Cup, the volatile Aussie focused on the US hard court season but was found to be unfit on Tuesday.
Last 12 months, Kyrgios was a quarterfinalist in Indian Wells and advanced to the fourth round in Miami.
But in January, he underwent knee surgery after his physiotherapist Will Maher revealed he had a meniscus cyst and a tear in his left knee, and event organizers said Kyrgios had much more work to do in his recovery.
World number 19 Kyrgios had a breakout season in 2022 after falling outside the highest 100 in 2021.
He reached the Wimbledon final, won the Citi Open, and reached the quarterfinals of the US Open.
Nonetheless, his season took a turn for the more serious after he worsened his knee in an exhibition match against Novak Djokovic days before a Grand Slam in his home country.

“We used the charity event against Novak as an indicator to see if he could compete at the best level,” Maher said. “He didn’t pull up well and kept trying to provide himself a likelihood in the next days to coach later.”
Kyrgios was the favourite to go to Australia after winning the lads’s doubles title in 2021 with fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis.
“After all I’m devastated. It’s like my home tournament,” Kyrgios told reporters at Melbourne Park.
“Truthfully, I’m just exhausted from the whole lot and clearly pretty brutal. One of the vital tournaments in my profession. It wasn’t easy in any respect, he added.
Maher explained that the tennis star had done the whole lot she could to compete in Melbourne, but “it was clear that he was getting an increasing number of sore with each session.”

Looking ahead, Kyrgios will likely give attention to the French Open despite his lack of interest in cop.
Last 12 months, he revealed that his decision to compete in a grand slam after a six-year absence from Roland Garros was dictated by the incontrovertible fact that his girlfriend desired to visit Paris.
The tournament could be his first ATP match because the Japan Open in October, where he reached the quarterfinals but withdrew on account of a left knee injury.
Bypassing Indian Wells and Miami, Kyrgios has lost 270 points he could have defended this 12 months, and if injuries proceed to weigh him down, he’ll proceed to say no.
