Nicole Kidman revealed that she used to lie about her height in a desperate bid to secure auditions firstly of her profession after she was told she was “too tall” for Hollywood.
The Oscar winner, 56, would tell casting directors that she was 5-feet 10-and-a-half inches when she stood tall at 5-feet 11 inches.
Kidman said she was ruthlessly told that she wouldn’t make it in Tinseltown just because she’s “too tall.”
“I used to be teased and called Stalky,” she said on the Radio Times Podcast. “People would say, ‘How’s the air up there?’”
“I used to be told, ‘You won’t have a profession. You’re too tall.’ Now, I get, ‘You’re a lot taller than I assumed’, or men grappling with how high my heels needs to be.”
The Aussie actress continued, “Each time I am going on the red carpet, I get sent shoes which might be all the time so high. I’m like, ‘Have they got a kitten heel? I’m going to be the tallest person — a giraffe!’”
Kidman said that her height sometimes “bothers” her when she’s acting, and her knees often hurt consequently.
Still, Kidman missed out on a number of roles due to her tall stature.
Recalling the time she was passed up for a task within the hit musical “Annie,” Kidman said she was two inches taller than the 5ft 2-inch height cut-off.
After pleading with the casting directors to give her a likelihood to audition, they ultimately let her check out for the role.
“I didn’t get the part,” she said. “I didn’t even get a call back — but at the very least I got to sing 4 lines of a chorus.”
Kidman said she makes sure to teach her daughters the “superpower” of courage and resilience.
The “Big Little Lies” star, nevertheless, said she’s “grateful to be healthy and walking around.”
“What matters is how you permit other people to either say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to you, and whether you accept that,” she added.
The actress shares two adopted children — daughter Isabella and son Connor — with her ex-husband Tom Cruise.
She’s also mom to teen daughters Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, whom she shares with country singer Keith Urban, to whom she’s been married since 2006.
