Nordstrom will close each of its downtown San Francisco stores due to a “deteriorating situation” in the realm, becoming the last chain company to close a location in this crime-ridden metropolis.
The retailer announced the closure of its store at Westfield Mall and one other nearby Nordstrom Rack in a memo to staff on Tuesday, stressing that the town center market “has modified dramatically”. according to KGO TV.
“We have spent over 35 years serving customers in downtown San Francisco, constructing relationships with them and investing in the area people,” Nordstrom told his employees.
“But as lots of , downtown San Francisco’s market dynamics have modified dramatically over the previous couple of years, affecting our store traffic and our ability to operate effectively.”
Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW), owner of the Westfield Mall where one in every of Nordstrom’s stores is closing, has criticized the present conditions in the town and said retailers are leaving en masse due to unsafe conditions which have dragged on despite the corporate’s pleas with authorities cities to take motion.

“The planned closure of Nordstrom underscores the deteriorating situation in downtown San Francisco,” a URW spokesman said, KGO reports.
“Growing numbers of outlets and businesses are leaving the realm due to unsafe conditions for purchasers, retailers and employees, coupled with the proven fact that these serious issues are stopping the realm’s economic recovery.”
“The present environment is just not sustainable for communities or businesses and we hope the town implements the changes which can be so urgently needed.”
Nordstrom at Westfield Mall will close by the top of August and Nordstrom Rack at Market Street will close on July 1, – reports the San Francisco Business Journal..
There have been many cases of companies fighting high crime in the town on the west coast.
As of 2020, twenty retailers have closed stores in San Francisco’s Union Square, the San Francisco Standard reported.

Last month, the recently opened Whole Foods Market was closed due to rising crime in the downtown area.
And without taking the intense step of closing, the San Francisco Goal store is obstructing all of its beauty and toiletries products.
