Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Sunday criticized President Biden over the immigration crisis, saying it was clear the White House had no intention of closing the border “to guard America’s sovereignty.”
“It’s abuse,” Pompeo claimed John Catsimatidis on his radio show WABC.
“They don’t have any intention of closing this border to guard American sovereignty,” Pompeo, the expected 2024 presidential candidate, said of the present administration. “Huge costs to the mayor of Recent York [and] big cities across America. That `s bad.”
He noted that the US southern border has been overrun with migrants since President Biden took office two years ago.
“That is almost 4 million in the primary two years. Gracious goodness! My home state of Kansas has just over 3 million people,” Pompeo said, alleging that the precarious situation on the border allows terrorists to enter the country and cartels to smuggle fentanyl.

“It is not the strategy to take care of middle-class Americans who struggle to get eggs and milk and keep their children on the table. The open border within the south is something [the Trump administration] this has been shown to be fixable. We watched President Biden [act] with some abuse and apparently no intention of closing the case,” Pompeo said.
Pompeo, who was also the CIA director within the Trump administration from 2017 to 2018, said the influx of fentanyl, a highly lethal synthetic opioid, into the country via Chinese smugglers on the Mexican border is especially concerning.
“We tried to repair it in the method [the Trump administration]. We now have did not persuade China to alter its behavior. [But] now we have managed to largely contain it at our border. Their motivation is actually quite simple: they see demand in the USA. There are cartels able to buy it and ship it from China through Mexico to the USA. It is a for-profit enterprise,” Pompeo said.
He rejected Vice President Kamala Harris’s argument that drug trafficking is linked to the “root causes” of immigration from Central and South American countries.
“We all know how you can fix it. … If you hear Vice President Harris say, “Well, we have got to get right down to root causes,” that is just bullshit. We all know how you can fix it. We just need a leadership that is ready for it,” Pompeo said.

The federal drug enforcement agency said it seized over 50.6 million fentanyl-free tablets and 10,000 tons of fentanyl powder nationwide in 2022.
The seizures were found to be for greater than 379 million potentially lethal doses of the illicit drug – doses enough to kill any American.
