TOKYO – José De León and three midfielders teamed up for a perfect match as Puerto Rico thrashed Israel 10-0 in the World Baseball Classic game, which was canceled after eight innings on Monday night due to the tournament’s 10-run rule.
De León tied the WBC record with 10 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
The suitable-hander was picked up after fanning Spencer Horwitz on his sixty fourth pitch, one below the tournament limit for rookie pitchers in the first round.
He left to an enormous ovation from the exorbitant Puerto Rican audience of 27,813 in Miami.
Javier Báez doubled up twice and Francisco Lindor tripled and singled out for Puerto Rico which finished with 11 hits and improved to 2-1.
Puerto Rico hit Israeli starter Colton Gordon quickly, winning three heats. Báez hit a double in two runs and scored from Eddie Rosario’s double.

Extra base hits continued for Puerto Rico in second, resulting in three more runs.
Kiké Hernández made it 5-0 after winning a double in two runs and got here home with a treble from Emmanuel Rivera.
Lindor’s two-run triple took fifth after three runs, and Hernández’s single-pointer in eighth ended the match.
Kunwoo Park and Ha-Seong Kim won back-to-back grand slams, while South Korea set a World Baseball Classic scoring record by beating China 22-2 in a match between teams already eliminated.

South Korea broke a running record that had stood since Japan defeated China 18-2 in the first round of the WBC first round in 2006.
In an earlier Group B match, Australia beat the Czech Republic 8-3 and reached the quarter-finals against Cuba on Wednesday.
Japan plays Italy the next day in the second quarter-final.
