Actor Russell Crowe and his girlfriend Britney Theriot refused service at an Australian restaurant for not adhering to a dress code.
The couple went to eat at Mr. Miyagi, a Japanese fusion restaurant in Melbourne, in attire worn while playing tennis earlier within the day, but were quickly refused entry by staff.
“He (Russell) went there wearing a brand latest Ralph Lauren polo shirt who had just played tennis and was turned down,” said Crowe’s manager Grant Vandenberg. Day by day Mail Australia.
The restaurant describes itself as “casual but fancy” where “work gear, sportswear, tank tops and thongs (flip-flops)” are prohibited.
Mr. Miyagi’s management doubled down on their decision to kick Gladiator’s star, saying that nobody is above their principles.
“We treat everyone the identical. It doesn’t matter who you’re or if you happen to’re Russell Crowe. We now have a dress code that we implement at every level,” said owner Kristian Klein Harbinger of the Sun.
“We’re consistent with that and I do not think it’s unreasonable. Klein continued. “But I personally know that if I’m wearing thongs (flip-flops) and planks (shorts), I’m not going to attempt to go to a pleasant restaurant because I would not be properly dressed.”
Klein said the staff member who refused Crowe entry didn’t know who the Robin Hood actor was, “a really unlucky situation for everybody”.
Mr. Miyagi toyed with the situation a bit by updating it Instagram dress code.
“Dress smart and casual, unless you are Russell Crowe, then wear anything,” the caption read.
The restaurant also turned to Crowe by clearing the air.
“Dear Russell, in your last visit, it looks like we got off to a foul start. After much thought of what happened, we’ve made a everlasting change to our dress code,” the caption reads. “We might like to see you again in the long run, you are all the time welcome at Mr. Miyagi.”
