A disgraced Sydney, Australia socialite broke down in court, describing how she turned to a prostitute and sold drugs to fund her $1,000-a-day drug addiction.
Alexandra Moss was sentenced on Friday to lower than two years in prison for dealing large amounts of drugs in a rented house in Rose Bay, an eastern suburb of Sydney.
The 27-year-old was arrested after police wiretaps revealed photos of her smiling and posing with bulging bags of marijuana, stacks of cocaine and cartons of GHB.
Police also uncovered messages wherein she overtly chatted with friends and clients concerning the delivery, storage and sale of drugs.
On Friday, Moss told the NSW District Court she was dealing drugs to feed her “incredibly bad (cocaine) habit”, which she estimated would cost between $700 and $1,000 a day.

The it-girl from the previous eastern suburbs admitted that between December 2020 and April 2021 she traded illegal drugs to finance her “very expensive” addiction.
The court heard that she was selling over 500g of cocaine on the time and was in possession of over 9.6kg of 1,4-butanediol (a dangerous precursor to the date rape drug GHB) when she was arrested.
Police discovered quite a few photos and videos on Moss’ drug phone, including photos of her holding two bulging bags of marijuana next to a clearly visible and smiling face.
Judge John Pickering joked that she “made life easier for the police” by documenting her crimes on her phone.
“She’s principally incriminating herself by taking pictures and delivering pretty strong breadcrumbs after her arrest,” he said.
The court heard that Moss was introduced to drugs on the age of 17 while working in a medical practice in Sydney.
“She was brought into contact with drugs by individuals who had no real interest in using drugs, let alone providing a teenage worker,” her lawyer, Phillip Boulten, told the court.
“It is a shameful thing that happened to this… helpless young woman.”

The court heard that the 27-year-old had turned to prostitution because he was paying in money, which Judge Pickering called “drug supply currency”.
Photos seized by police show Moss in possession of enormous amounts of money, which she said she earned from prostitution moderately than supplying drugs.
Since being arrested for drugs, the Rose Bay resident has been diagnosed with ADHD, social, depression and stimulant use disorder.
Mr Boulten argued that she was treating her “undiagnosed cognitive impairment” with cocaine, which calmed her down and allowed her to concentrate.
“It was a type of self-medication that destroyed her dignity, self-esteem, destroyed her profession prospects and led to very degrading life circumstances,” he said.
The defense attorney told the court that his client’s way of thinking was “disturbed” by her heavy day by day cocaine use and she or he was unable to understand the impact of her crime.
Moss testified on Friday that she was “embarrassed” and “disillusioned with herself” but her arrest was a wake-up call.
“I think that because I used to be in such a drug state, my way of thinking was not what it’s today,” she said.
“I think if I hadn’t been caught that day, I’d have overdosed.”
Judge Pickering accepted her evidence that she was supplying drugs because she was a major cocaine user herself.

“The criminal is a very good example of why cocaine mustn’t be portrayed as a very good drug, a show drug,” he said.
“Her life has gone down a spiral… and here she is probably going to have one in all the worst days of her life.”
The judge told Moss that aiding her addiction by supplying a “substantial amount” of cocaine through Sydney “was inflicting loads of misery on other people.”
Moss was also accused of supplying a big business quantity of gammabutyrolactane (GBL), one other GHB precursor, after police tracked down the possession of a giant container of liquid.
Judge Pickering found that she was “naive” concerning the drug, which was outside her comfort zone of cocaine and marijuana.
In court, he said he was not convinced the 27-year-old had supplied the drug to anyone.
“She knew she had a helpful asset, but she didn’t know the way to use it,” he said.

The judge agreed that Moss’s mental health problems likely contributed to her “impulsive decision-making”.
It acknowledged that imprisonment would likely end in a “significant deterioration in her mental state” due to her mental health diagnosis, but stressed that it was the one punishment for a misdemeanor.
The previous socialite had previously spent two days in pretrial detention before being released on bail.
The day she was released, she told the court that she had returned to her apartment and snorted the leftover cocaine. She testified that she had not touched illegal drugs since then.
The court heard that Moss spent five months in rehab centers and worked full-time studying criminology in an effort to help others avoid the identical mistakes she made.
“As a criminal, you could not have done more to get yourself or out of the swamp than she did,” Mr Boulten said.
Judge Pickering agreed that her commitment to rehabilitation, mental health issues, and relative youth were grounds for a “very significant finding of special circumstances.”
“Proven rehabilitation is rather more impressive than promised rehabilitation,” he said.
He sentenced Moss to a maximum of 4 years and 4 months behind bars, with a no-parole period of 23 months.
The sentence was pushed back to January 23 to allow for time spent in custody and rehabilitation, so the 27-year-old might be eligible for release in December 2024.
“I think you will likely lead a successful life after this case is over,” the judge told Moss.
Wearing a black dress and jacket with dark lipstick, the previous socialite sobbed right into a scarf throughout the proceedings.
When she was arrested, she smiled through her tears and blew a kiss to family and friends gathered within the courtroom.
