Convenience Sheetz chain stores are offering customers a patriotic discount at a gas station on July 4.
The Pennsylvania-based company is selling gasoline for $1,776 a gallon in greater than 600 stores on Tuesday – about 50% off the national average.
The promotion is valid all day for regular fuels, E85 (flex fuel), unleaded 88, medium and premium fuels, in keeping with the announcement.
“We hope this discount will help our customers keep a little more change of their wallets as they travel to have fun July 4 with family and friends in an obvious nod to our nation’s birthday,” CEO Travis Sheetz said in a statement.
Sheetz has stores in its home state of Pennsylvania, in addition to in Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.
The chain has a history of gas holiday promotions, previously selling gas for $1.99 a gallon for Thanksgiving last November.

The one-day price is a significant discount from the national average, which hit about $3.53 a gallon on Tuesday, in keeping with AAA data. Last 12 months, prices hovered above $4.80 a gallon.
A record 43.2 million Americans were expected to drive for the July 4 holiday.
“Gasoline prices this 12 months are $1.30 a gallon lower than last 12 months, but still high in comparison with historical averages,” AAA spokesman Andrew Gross said in a statement.

“The previous July 4 record high average gas price was $4.10 in 2008, while the bottom gasoline price was $1.39 in 2001,” Gross added. “Nonetheless, despite the currently elevated prices, drivers aren’t cutting back on travel this summer.”
