Recent York City could be stricken by a second wave of thick orange smoke on Thursday as lots of of out-of-control wildfires ravage parts of Canada.
Based on Fox 5 Evening Meteorologist Mike Thomas, who shared a graphic of the smoke forecast through Friday on Twitter, last week’s “unhealthy” air quality could return.
“The smoky sky is back again. Still not expected to be as bad as last week but could catch up with to code orange later Thursday through Friday.” Thomas wrote.
“Thunderstorms on Friday can be a bit more ‘charged’ as extra particles in the atmosphere often result in more lightning!”
Canada continues to have one among its worst fire seasons, with greater than 400 fires moving smoke south and into the United States, causing major air quality issues.
Extreme fire activity, greater than half of which is believed to be uncontrolled, will proceed to push thick smog into the northern United States on Thursday before the weather turns southeast.
Satellite images shared by Thomas show the smoke is more likely to move across the Midwest Thursday morning before settling down and heading towards the south and east coasts Thursday through Friday.
As the smoke leaves the Dakota and Minnesota on Thursday, Fox forecasters say it could roll back and make its way into the Great Lakes and Northeast regions by Friday.

Recent York City recorded its worst-ever Air Quality Index rating last week as winds blew heavy smoke from wildfires into the region, blanketing the city in an apocalyptic orange smog.
The fog has caused air quality in parts of the Big Apple to achieve “very unhealthy” levels, in response to the Environmental Protection Agency index.
The air quality index reached 353 last Wednesday, much worse than Recent Delhi’s 190 and Recent York’s normal 100 index.
Based on forecasters, the air was the worst since the Nineteen Eighties, including after the September 11 attacks.
