Smoke from wildfires in Canada could disrupt flights in the eastern United States again on Thursday after a whole bunch of planes were delayed the day before due to reduced visibility, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
“The FAA will likely need to take steps to safely manage the flow of traffic into Latest York City, [Washington] DC, Philadelphia and Charlotte [North Carolina] due to reduced visibility attributable to smoke from the fires.
Incoming traffic at Philadelphia International Airport was halted until 9:15 a.m., the FAA said.
A whole lot of flights to and from Latest York’s LaGuardia Airport and nearby Newark Liberty International Airport were delayed Wednesday due to heavy smoke. The FAA briefly brought traffic to LaGuardia to an entire halt during the day.
Around 9:15 a.m. EST Thursday, greater than 800 flights to, from and inside the United States were delayed, according to data FlightAware flight tracking.
According to FlightAware, nearly 50 LaGuardia departures, or 8% of the schedule, were delayed at 9:15 a.m. Thursday.
