A recent study has found that job seekers with a Southern accent may earn lower than those without an accent.
According to research by the University of Chicago and the University of Munich, individuals with Southern accents can lose hundreds of dollars a 12 months.
The study found that individuals with a strong regional accent are penalized by up to 20% compared to those that speak with a “standard accent”.
One other recent study found that 38% of job seekers admitted to “softening” their regional accent during job interviews due to negative stereotypes.
This study by the Writing Suggestions Institute found that candidates with a Southern accent were the fourth almost definitely to change their voice. People from Western Latest England, South Midland, and Latest Jersey were almost definitely to change their accents.
