A coast-to-coast winter storm that can sweep across the United States will approach the east coast on Thursday, which can be the icing on top of an energetic weather week.
The storm system will develop a recent low pressure area that can move south from Latest England, bringing heavy ice and then snow to the inner parts of the Northeast.
The FOX Forecast Center said the winter storm would begin in the early hours of Thursday morning. An icy mixture of freezing rain and sleet will first break out in the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains of Virginia and West Virginia before spreading to central Pennsylvania.
The icing will proceed until at the very least noon on Thursday, with build-up significant in some areas.
The worst conditions are expected in the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia, where as much as three-quarters of an inch of ice is feasible. The load of a lot ice is prone to knock down many trees and result in quite a few power outages.

Further north in Pennsylvania, the freezing rain will turn to snow on Thursday afternoon, limiting ice buildup to where it won’t cause too many power outages, but extremely difficult and dangerous travel conditions are still expected attributable to the ice and snow.
Ice storm warnings are in effect where the most disruptive ice is predicted, from the Blue Ridge and Allegheny Mountains in Virginia and West Virginia north to the western portions of central Pennsylvania.
Winter storm warnings are posted for the remainder of central and northeastern Pennsylvania, central and northern Latest York State, and parts of northern Latest England where mostly snowfall is predicted.

Winter weather warnings have been issued for parts of the Interstate 95 corridor, including Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., where a transient winter mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain could make for a slippery trip on Thursday morning before the showers turn to regular rain in the afternoon.
The FOX Forecast Center said snow will cover much of central and northeastern Pennsylvania and upstate Latest York Thursday afternoon, before expanding to Vermont, Latest Hampshire and western Massachusetts on Thursday evening.
The snow will proceed throughout Friday and likewise spread across Maine before finally clearing on Saturday.

The quantity of snowfall will depend upon elevation, with higher elevations easily picking up greater than a foot of snow from upstate Latest York to western Maine. At lower elevations, there can be less snowfall attributable to mixing with sleet and freezing rain.
As mentioned earlier, major cities along the I-95 corridor from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. can expect a transient winter mix on Thursday morning before the storm becomes primarily rain for them.
