American tennis star Taylor Fritz had fans laughing and scratching their heads together with his on-camera drawing after winning his Australian Open first round match.
Fritz defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia 6-4 6-2 4-6 7-5 at the John Cain Arena on Tuesday.
It’s traditional for the winning players to write down a message to the camera at the end of the match, but viewers were quick to say that the 25-year-old’s selection looked hilariously incorrect.
Some took to social media to ask men’s world number 9 to clarify the “NSFW drawing” that was broadcast around the world.
In response, Fritz tweeted: “To your information, I attempted to draw [lock] emoticons…. I just forgot the very vital undeniable fact that I can not draw.
Fritz’s victory on Tuesday got here under a closed roof as the Australian Open’s extreme heat policy was activated.
The rooftop was also closed at Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court Arena while play was suspended at other outdoor courts until 5pm.
The policy was activated when the tournament heat stress scale hit five. The size takes under consideration air temperature, sunlight, humidity and wind speed.
But Fritz said he didn’t mind the dry heat in Melbourne, Australia.
“It’s hot but dry, so I do not mind an excessive amount of,” he told the post-match press conference.
“I feel playing DC last yr, the US Open a few years ago is way worse since it’s so hot and humid.
“When it’s like today, it is not that humid… I do not think it’s that bad.”
Fritz was also asked what he considered the “Netflix curse”, referring to the unlucky events that followed the gamers featured in the recent docuseries Breakpoint.
Australians Nick Kyrgios and Ajla Tomljanovic and Spaniard Paula Badosa, who star in five episodes on Netflix, needed to withdraw from the Australian Open.
While the Web can have called it the “Netflix Curse,” Fritz didn’t understand it was a thing.
“I noticed people pulling out of the tournament, but I didn’t realize it was like, ‘I’ll lose the first round because I’m on a Netflix show,'” he said.
He added with a smile, “I hadn’t considered that.”
