The owner of the iconic restaurant Icebergs on Bondi Beach has spoken out in defense of his establishment’s prices after the restaurant disputed the $68 [$45.84 USD] pasta.
The restaurant was accused of overcharging last week by the self-proclaimed “gourmet” Special K Gourmet on TikTok — who asked viewers in the event that they thought the menu item was price the price.
“So that they recently launched these sunset lunch sessions that start at 4pm. Sounds great, let’s sit there, eat something amazing, watch the sunset, [I’m] all for it, I believe it’s amazing,” she said in a video posted on Friday.
Fascinated about taking advantage of the experience, she looked online at what was on offer but was immediately shocked by what she saw.
“I checked their menu and saw $68 [$45.84 USD] for a bowl of noodles,” she said.

“For instance, I get these living expenses, I get staff costs and rent, all these kinds of things come into play.”
“However it costs $68 [$45.84 USD] for a bowl of noodles price it?”
Greater than 30,000 people watched the video and greater than 350 left comments saying whether or not they thought the price was justified.
“The demographic that complains about the price will not be the demographic for which there are icebergs,” one person replied.
“I’ve worked in some very high-end restaurants in Australia which have world-renowned chefs and pristine views, and I’ve never seen prices like this,” said one other.

“For those who think it’s too expensive don’t go there, easy as that,” wrote one other.
Owner Maurice Terzini has since responded to the criticism by explaining that prices reflect higher weekend costs and include taxes.
“Your alternative whether you wish to spend ten dollars or $1,000. Is a $10,000 Chanel bag still price it on this climate?” said the Every day Mail.
Social media users still thought the price was “pretentious”.
“Who makes this pasta, Beyoncé?” one said.
“Icebergs have turn out to be very ‘beneficial’, especially to the local population,” said one other.
“It’s ridiculously pretentious. For those who don’t love pretentiousness, don’t go,” added one other.
