The NFL could also be getting closer to the future with an international division, according to a report by Front Office Sports.
The anonymous owner told the facility that it was unclear if the split could occur in two years, five years or another undetermined amount of time, “but there can be an international split.”

All 32 have played international games since the league’s inception in 2005 – when the Cardinals and 49ers met in Mexico City – and the league expanded its international presence in 2022 when the Seahawks and Buccaneers played in Germany.
The Giants and Jets played one international game in London in the 2022 and 2021 seasons, respectively, and since the start of the NFL International Series, each teams have played five games outside of the United States.

“I believe we’re focused on capability constructing, so if there was a possibility – whether the club wanted to consider relocation or potentially take a look at expansion – we’re in that mode,” Peter O’Reilly, NFL vp of club business and events, said Front Office Sports. “In London, where we have been for a very long time, and now in Germany, we’re ensuring we now have stadium partners, government partners and fan support to keep this chance going.”
After five international games in 2022, the league will play five games – three in London, two in Germany – outside of the US in 2023.

The Bills and Patriots will join the Jaguars in playing a match in London, while the Chiefs and Patriots will turn into the next two teams to play in Germany.
For now, it isn’t known who their opponents can be.
If the league were to create an expansion division, it will mark the addition of a team for the first time since the Texans joined in 2002 – bringing the NFL to its current 32 teams.
