Apple’s newly unveiled mixed reality headset – hailed by the corporate as an innovation as groundbreaking as the unique iPhone – immediately caused ridicule online, with many mocking its staggering price tag.
The device, dubbed “Vision Pro,” will cost a whopping $3,499 apiece when it becomes available early next 12 months, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced at the corporate’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference at the corporate’s headquarters in California.
When the associated fee was announced in real time, the audience on the conference groaned loudly, you’ll be able to see the footage posted on Twitter.
On the Web, people also complained concerning the value of the dollar.
“The $3,499 Apple Vision Pro will allow you to see how bad your personal funds are,” finance meme account tweeted.
Many also dragged the short battery life of the product.
“For the low price of $3,500 and two hours of Apple Vision Pro battery life, you’ll be able to watch a full 2/3 of Avatar in your next flight” – photographer Martin Moore tweeted.
Others said the new technology – which allows users to see and interact with virtual displays nearby of their actual physical spaces – felt like something out of a dystopian sci-fi movie or TV series.
“Apple Vision Pro comes straight from Black Mirror,” a user tweeted alongside a promotional video for the product.
“Oh, and another thing: when you die in vision pro, you die in real life” – Senior Designer at Netflix joked on Twitter.
Nevertheless, not all reviews were negative.
Many Web users claimed that the technology was groundbreaking and would change the way in which people live and interact with others and the media. Some pointed to the likelihood of watching concert events and sports matches from home in an unprecedented level of deep immersion.
YouTuber Marques Brownlee raved about Apple’s latest product after trying out the headset in person.
“Just spent half-hour within the Apple Vision Pro headset. You all. I’m. VERY impressed with just a few specific things,” he said tweeted. “Definitely stay tuned.”
