The University of Wyoming Association responded to members who complained that a transgender woman had been admitted to their local chapter – emphasizing that the term “female” is “undoubtedly open to multiple interpretations”.
Seven Kappa Kappa Gamma sisters sued the association in March, alleging that the chapter violated its own rules by admitting Artemis Langford last 12 months.
The six women filed the lawsuit again in May after a judge twice barred them from suing anonymously.
The lawsuit stated that Langford’s presence at the house of Kappa Kappa Gamma made some members of the sorority uncomfortable.
It was claimed that the transgender pledge sat on the couch for hours “looking at them without speaking.”

Kappa Kappa Gamma on Tuesday submitted an application dismiss the lawsuit, saying it was a “frivolous” attempt to oust Langford from “his own political goals.”
The application also suggested that complaining members resign from the association if its “position of inclusion” is “too offensive” to them.
“The plaintiffs ask the court to join this controversial political debate and declare that a non-public organization can only interpret the term ‘female’ through the use of Plaintiffs’ exclusive definition of biologically born women,” reads the filing, obtained by The Post.

“Kappa defines its membership in its statement adopted in 2015 as individuals who discover as women,” it continues.
“Plaintiffs cannot discover any bylaw, applicable rule or policy that prohibits Kappa from taking this position, and the term is undoubtedly open to multiple interpretations.”
The association’s membership policy also mirrors that of the 25 other associations within the National Panhellenic Conference, the umbrella organization for associations within the US and Canada, according to records.

In a separate filing on Tuesday supporting the association’s motion to dismiss the case, Langford’s attorney wrote that the lawsuit also didn’t mention any wrongdoing or seek relief from Langford.
Kappa Kappa Gamma members who’re suing are throwing “dehumanizing mud” to “persecute Ms. Langford on the national stage,” the attorney claimed within the lawsuit.
“That in itself deserves an exemption,” the filing reads. according to Langford’s application.
Members of the association are looking for an annulment by a judge of Langford’s Kappa Kappa Gamma membership and an award of unspecified damages.
In March, Kari Kittrell Poole, the association’s executive director, said the members’ criticism contained “quite a few false allegations” but didn’t specify them.
Kappa Kappa Gamma didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Langford’s comment couldn’t be obtained.
