One lucky tourist on a fishing trip off the coast of Florida got the catch of his life – and limitless bragging rights – after catching a great white shark.
Sudden Strike Offshore Adventures, a charter fishing company in Volusia County, released a video showing the moment a client from Nova Scotia, Canada caught a great white shark 20 miles off the coast of Ponce Inlet on Thursday.
In the footage, the man could be heard giggling and shouting excitedly, while the 10 to 12 foot apex predator – presumably a juvenile – is seen on a hook a few feet below the ocean’s surface.
“One of our customers had the lucky probability to catch the fish of a lifetime,” said Captain Scott Housel Click Orlando.
Housel was taking tourists to a synthetic reef to catch groupers and triggerfish after they spotted a shark circling the 31-foot boat.
Housel said the guests made no try to hook the shark, but after a while the massive fish took the bait and dragged the boat for 2 miles.

After about half-hour, the boat crew released the shark, which swam away.
Housel said this was his fourth encounter with a great white shark while fishing, but this was the first time he caught one on a hook.
In response to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the great white shark is assessed as a vulnerable species and is prohibited from fishing in state waters.
