Twitter’s recent usage restrictions were put in place to “detect and eliminate bots and other bad actors,” the corporate said on Tuesday, adding that only a “small percent” of users are currently affected.
“To make sure the authenticity of our user base, we must take extreme measures to remove spam and bots from our platform,” Twitter said. in a blog post. “Any advance notice of those activities would allow bad actors to change their behavior to avoid detection.”
The corporate said the actions are aimed toward stopping accounts from collecting public user data to construct artificial intelligence models and to manipulate using the platform.
Twitter owner Elon Musk announced the restrictions on Saturday, saying users would only have the opportunity to read a certain variety of posts per day due to “extreme levels of knowledge collection” and “system manipulation”.
Twitter billed the restrictions as temporary and so they were tiered based on the user’s verification status on the platform. The update got here as many Twitter users encountered error messages when trying to access the platform.
“Currently, the restrictions affect a small percentage of individuals using the platform and we’ll provide an update when the work is accomplished. For our customers, the impact on promoting was minimal,” Twitter said on Tuesday.
