Twitter’s head of trust and security, Ella Irwin, told Reuters on Thursday that she had resigned from the social media company that had drawn criticism for lax protection against harmful content since billionaire Elon Musk acquired it in October.
Irwin, who joined Twitter in June 2022, took over as head of the trust and security team in November, when previous boss Yoel Roth resigned.
She supervised content moderation.
An email sent to Twitter returned an auto-reply with a poop emoji.
Irwin declined to comment further, and Musk didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
Irwin’s departure got here because the platform struggled to retain advertisers and brands were concerned about appearing alongside inappropriate content.
Musk announced earlier this month that he had hired Linda Yaccarino, former head of NBCUniversal promoting, to be the brand new CEO of Twitter.

Fortune previously reported that Irwin’s internal Slack account had been deactivated.
Since taking up Musk, Twitter has dramatically cut costs and laid off hundreds of employees, many of them working to stop harmful and illegal content, protect the fairness of elections, and share accurate information on the location.
Musk has promoted a feature called Community Notes that permits users so as to add context to tweets as a technique to combat misleading information on Twitter.

The corporate also faces increasing scrutiny from regulators over its moderation efforts.
Twitter has withdrawn from a voluntary agreement with the European Union to fight disinformation, while saying it’s committed to complying with future EU web rules.
EU industry chief Thierry Breton Twitter warned last week that it could not have the ability to evade its legal obligations within the EU once it left the voluntary agreement.
