Walmart announced Thursday that it plans so as to add electric vehicle charging stations to thousands of U.S. stores by 2030.
The corporate announced it will expand its electric vehicle fast charging network to Walmart and Sam’s Club locations nationwide, adding to the nearly 1,300 EV stations currently operating at the corporate’s 280 locations. Walmart didn’t provide more details in regards to the investment.
The massive box retailer said it was in the method of identifying suppliers. It plans to own and operate electric vehicle charging stations in its national network. The corporate expects an average of 4 chargers to be installed in each participating store, reported Reuters.
Walmart has worked with EV charger suppliers in the past EVgo and Electrify America. Over the past two years, the corporate has significantly expanded its network.
“Quick access to charging while on the move is a game changer for drivers who’ve been hesitant to buy an electric vehicle for fear of not having the ability to discover a charger in a clean, vibrant and protected place when needed,” Vishal Kapadia, senior vice chairman of product development, Vishal Kapadia. energy transition, he said in an announcement.
The planned expansion will make electric vehicle ownership more reliable, Kapadia said. In keeping with the corporate, greater than 4,700 Walmart stores and 600 Sam’s Clubs are inside 10 miles of about 90% of Americans.
