Chicago White Sox right-hand pitcher Liam Hendriks announced Sunday night that he has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Hendriks, 33, said his treatment would start on Monday and he expected to make a full recovery.
“As knowledgeable athlete, I even have at all times tried to make use of my position in the general public eye for essentially the most positive purposes possible by shedding light on causes or problems that affect me, my wife and my family,” Hendriks wrote in a social media post.
“I used to be recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Hearing the word “cancer” got here as a shock to me and my wife, because it does to hundreds of thousands of families annually. Nevertheless, I’m determined to fight and overcome this recent challenge with the identical determination that I used when facing other obstacles in my life.
“My treatment starts tomorrow and I’m confident that I’ll make a full recovery and return to the mound as soon as possible. I do know that with the support of my wife, family, teammates and the Chicago White Sox organization, and with the treatment and care of my doctors, I’ll get through this.”
The White Sox released an announcement from general manager Rick Hahn wherein they endorsed three-time All-Star Hendrix.
“Our thoughts and reactions at the moment are with Liam as an individual and never Liam the baseball player,” Hahn wrote. “I do know that the complete Chicago White Sox organization, our employees, his teammates and definitely the White Sox fans shall be supporting Liamand (wife) Kristi in the approaching months. Knowing everyone involved, especially Liam, we’re optimistic that he’ll perform for the White Sox again every time possible. Within the meantime, we are going to all do every part we will to support our teammate and his family as they face this challenge, while respecting their privacy.”
Hahn added that the team wouldn’t have any updates on Hendrix’s status for the 2023 season until opening day “on the earliest”.

Originally from Australia, Hendriks played 12 seasons in Major League Baseball, mostly ranging from the bullpen in 2015. 37 records. The 12 months before, his 38 defenses led the American League.
In 471 profession games (44 starts) for the Minnesota Twins (2011-13), Kansas City Royals (2014), Toronto Blue Jays (2014-15), Oakland Athletics (2016-20) and White Sox, Hendriks has a profession 3, 81 ERA with a record of 31-34 and 115 saves. He has 724 strikeouts for 158 walks in 645 innings.
Hendriks was All-Star in 2019, 2021 and 2022. He received votes for the American League Cy Young Award in 2020 and 2021.
