Whoopi Goldberg apologized Wednesday after she used an ethnic slur against Roma on The View.
During a discussion about Donald Trump and Stormy Daniels on Wednesday’s episode, the 67-year-old longtime co-host referred to “individuals who still consider he in some way got gy-d within the election.”
Lower than an hour after the show aired live, Goldberg offered Mea culpa online.
“You already know, whenever you’re at a certain age, you employ words that out of your childhood or that you just remember, and that is what I did today – and I shouldn’t,” Goldberg said within the video tweeted via the show’s official account.
“I must have considered it somewhat longer before saying it, and I didn’t. I must have said cheated and I used a unique word and I’m very, very sorry.”
A spokesperson for The View had no further comment when contacted by The Post.

“Gypsy” is often used to explain Roma, but based on Merriam-Webster, it also has negative connotations, including “deceived, deceived, deceived”.
Based on the Oxford English Dictionary, the primary known recorded definition of the term “gy-d” dates back to dictionary from 1899which stated that it’sprobably a shortcut “Gypsy”, “Gypsy” in reference to a cunning man without scruples.
One Twitter user also shared 2013 NPR article wondering why the term “hurts Roma greater than you” because the headline said.
“Please don’t use “gy-d” Whoopi” they wrote.

Whoopi Goldberg Makes Apology Video for Saying “gy-d” on The View: “I’m Really Sorry.” IT’S NOT THE FIRST TIME,” one other person wrote, referring to Goldberg’s two apologies for her comments, claiming that the Holocaust was “not about race.”
“How over and over does she should apologize? Get ’em off the air” one other said.
In July 2021, The Entomological Society of America announced that it was renaming the gypsy moth on account of its outdated nickname.
“It’s an ethnic slur that was rejected by Roma a protracted time ago,” said the association’s then-president Michelle Smith. “Second, nobody desires to be related to a harmful, invasive pest.”
