While Whoopi Goldberg often makes headlines along with his far-left political commentary on The View, he’s about to make his way into the usually politicized arena of comic books.
On Tuesday, Dark Horse Comics announced in a press release that it is working with Goldberg on an upcoming menopausal superhero graphic novel titled “The Change.”
“Due to her lifelong love of comics, Goldberg decided it was time to create a recent type of superhero – one who may be a little older, whose body may be a little fatter… and whose breasts may be the identical size or no,” said a comic book distributor once known for content like Mike Mignola’s “Hellboy”. “She’s also in menopause, which, together with the chills and hot flashes, has also given her unexpected superpowers.”
Dark Horse noted that she worked with author, producer, and showrunner Jaime Paglia, who Goldberg said was “as extraordinary as I’m.”
The press release provided further details on the upcoming story.
“Isabel Frost is a woman who has spent her life as a wife, mother and grandmother – the life she feels is not all the things she had hoped for, with a husband who has developed in a different direction. A university graduate with a degree, Isabel is an incredible player who plays against people from all around the country,” it explained.
It further added, “With the assistance of her comic-loving grandson and irreverent best friend, she must learn to regulate her abilities and embrace her recent identity as Change – each life-changing AND her surprising and weird superpowers.”
The comic is now available for pre-order and will probably be released in late November.
Bounding Into Comics author Jon Del Arroz joked that the comic is geared toward the “wine aunt demographic” because the increasingly politicized comic book industry “continues its death spiral.”
He slammed the character Isabel Frost as a “stand-alone Whoopi character”, specifying to readers: “The book is billed as a serious book, not a parody, with heroic Whoopi depicted on the duvet with blue and purple energy rising from her hand like a flame.”
