A Michigan woman was arrested at a Walmart store over the weekend after she was allegedly caught shoplifting during a “shop with a cop” event with over 70 police officers present.
Law enforcement officers were at the shop in Genoa Township on Saturday when a clerk notified police that a woman had packed a cart with about $730 goods and ran through the self-checkout, Michigan State Police Lt. Rene Gonzalez told FOX2 Detroit.
“I do need to say it surprised me because once I’m driving a patrol automobile, people decelerate,” Gonazlez said. “Once you see 75 cops in the shop, I mean, I don’t know if possibly they thought we were too busy.”
Gonzalez said police officers at the event partner with children whose families may not find a way to afford much through the holiday season.
“We bring children that may otherwise not have a good Christmas get to return to the shop,” the lieutenant said. “They get $100, sometimes a $150 gift card to go and shop for themselves with your loved ones.”

As officers and youngsters were shopping, the 62-year-old woman walked out of the shop with a number of items, including groceries and garments, without paying, in keeping with police.
A trooper followed the girl to the car parking zone and spotted her loading the stolen goods in her automobile, which was parked next to a police cruiser, the report said.
Police said the girl was arrested and brought to the Livingston County Jail. She bonded out but shall be charged with retail fraud. The lady’s identity was not immediately released.
